A Weekend in Zermatt

Forty-eight hours in a car-free village: where to ski, where to eat, and the one run to save for the last morning.

A Weekend in Zermatt

Zermatt rewards short trips better than most large resorts, largely because everything is walkable and the skiing starts immediately above the village.

Friday evening

Arrive by train — the ride up the Mattertal is part of the experience. Dinner in the old quarter, then an early night: the first lift matters here.

Saturday

Sunnegga first for the light, then across to Rothorn. Lunch high, ski the long descent to Findeln in the afternoon, and finish with a sauna before dinner.

Sunday

Take the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise early and ski the full descent back to the village — nearly two thousand vertical metres, and the run worth saving for last.
